World Touring Car driver Rob Huff has become the first customer to take delivery of a UK-specification Chevrolet Camaro.

The 31-year old racer, who drives for the Chevrolet works WTCC team, took delivery of the car from main dealer Cambridge Chevrolet, close to his home on the Cambridgeshire/Suffolk border.

“This is a dream come true,” said Huff, who is now in his eighth season driving in the WTCC for Chevrolet.

“I’ve wanted a Camaro ever since I first saw the concept car four years ago. To finally get behind the wheel of my own car, in my own personalised colour scheme, is one of the best days of my life.”

With around half a million caravanning enthusiasts in the UK, leisure towing is an extremely popular pastime. While many caravan owners will be taking advantage of the long June bank holiday weekend, throughout the summer outdoor enthusiasts will be looking for engaging activities, especially activities outside London.

As caravan owners head out onto the open road, one of the most important things to remember is safety. To help them, Chevrolet has developed a safe caravanning guide in conjunction with some of the industry’s leading caravanning organisations on caravan safety and enjoyment.

Chevrolet’s Top Tips for Safe Caravanning

1.  Practice turning, stopping and reversing before you begin towing on public roads. Do not tow in traffic until you are confident that you can handle the vehicle and caravan safely

2.  Always go through your safety checklist before heading off

3.  Make sure that the lighting system of the caravan works properly

4.  Do not drive faster than 50 mph while towing

5.  Make sure you have enough room when cornering and avoid sudden manoeuvres

6.  Always have someone to guide you when reversing

7.  Parking on any kind of slope is not recommended

8.  Always chock the caravan’s wheels when parking and apply the car’s parking brake

9.  Make sure the person placing / removing the chocks from your wheels stands to one side

10. Always carefully read the caravan manufacturer’s instructions

Here’s one chariot that looks set to swing low for the rest of 2012, as it gets crammed to the roof and beyond with rugby players…

As the competitive rugby season is kicked into touch, Chevrolet is calling local amateur and semi-professional rugby clubs across the UK to tackle a new kind of challenge, by squeezing as many of their players as possible into the New Aveo, at dealers across the UK, in a bid to win new kit and rugby goodies for their team.

Chevrolet UK will host a league table of participating clubs via its Facebook page to see how many players can be squeezed into the Aveo, a car that’s much bigger on the inside than it looks from the outside. By the end of 2012, the league tables will be collated and an overall winner decided.

“This is a great opportunity for local rugby clubs to get themselves in the news during the close season, and to keep their competitive spirit going through the summer,” said Chevrolet UK Managing Director Mark Terry.

“It’s also a great way to demonstrate the Aveo’s incredibly flexible interior space. While I wouldn’t recommend driving with a full rugby team in the car, it does show how much interior capacity the Aveo has. It’s also a much more aggressive and masculine looking car than many of its rivals, and we believe this will give it added appeal to younger male motorists as well as more traditional supermini buyers.”

To set the ball rolling, Cambridge-based Shelford Rugby club were the first team to tackle the Aveo challenge. Using their ruck and scrum tactics, 11 of the first 15 managed to squeeze into the Aveo, supplied by Cambridge Chevrolet, and close all the doors – in order to be eligible, all doors and tailgate must be shut, and all body parts be inside the car.

Rugby teams wanting to take part in the challenge are encouraged to contact their local Chevrolet dealer,
