Ford’s exciting new 250PS Focus ST, one of the UK’s most keenly-anticipated performance hatchbacks, will go on sale from 1st June 2012, priced from £21,995 on the road.

Powered by an advanced, direct-injection 2.0-litre, all-alloy, turbocharged, four-cylinder EcoBoost engine, the new Ford Focus ST develops 250PS, yet remains capable of  returning 39.2mpg and CO2 emissions of 169g/km – 20 per cent better than its predecessor.

Unique suspension, non-linear variable-ratio steering and performance brakes have all been specifically tuned, while the striking central exhaust, imposing trapezoidal front grille and even the Tangerine Scream paint option which were inspired by the original Ford Focus ST Concept, have been brought to production.

Focus ST will be available in both hatchback and estate bodystyles, proving that practicality need not compromise style or performance, with a high level of comfort, safety and convenience features standard on both.

Standard UK specification includes Ford Power keyless start, Recaro seats, DAB radio, Bluetooth and 18in alloy wheels, with the range-topping ST3 model adding heated, leather seats, Bi-Xenon headlights, LED daytime running lights and keyless entry.

Additional sports styling options include rado-grey alloys wheels, red brake callipers and illuminated scuff plates.

The UK’s fascination with fast Fords is underlined by the sales performance of the previous two Focus ST generations, which exceeded 35,000 between 2002 and 2010.

“Ever since the arrival of the legendary GT40, Britain has become the spiritual home for performance Fords – and demand from UK enthusiast customers has always been strong,” said Mark Ovenden, Ford Britain managing director. “This latest Focus ST is a global car that will excite customers around the world – but especially those in Britain.”

As Ford’s first global performance car, the new Focus ST was developed jointly by Ford’s Team RS in Europe and its Special Vehicles Team (SVT) in the United States.  The car goes on sale in 40 countries, from this year.

Its UK debut will coincide with a starring role in the new all-action movie adaptation of British TV cop classic, The Sweeney, with actors Ray Winstone and “Plan B” Ben Drew playing Regan and Carter.

Ford Focus crowned Best Medium Car at 2012 Diesel Car Awards

The all-new Ford Focus is best diesel medium car thanks to its contemporary style and refinement – as declared by Diesel Car magazine at its 2012 awards.

According to Diesel Car magazine, buyers are particularly attracted by its style and contemporary cabin.  The all-new Ford Focus fought off competitors including the Hyundai i30 and Volkswagen Golf.

Editor, Ian Robertson, added:  “Still the one to beat among mid-size family cars, the Ford Focus is simply the best in its class.”

Ford Focus has just surpassed the landmark 1,500,000 sales since its launch in 1998 and continues to dominate its segment.  The all-new Focus is recognised for its driver assistance technologies and refined drive, and offers a number of fuel efficient powertrains including the popular 1.6 TDCi which emits 109g CO2/km while returning 67mpg*.

This diesel engine has been further optimised with a new injection system and turbocharger, enhanced charge-air cooling and friction-reduction technologies.  It will be introduced in the UK market next month in the Focus ECOnetic Technology which is capable of CO2 emissions as low as 88g/km.

Andy Barratt, Ford Britain sales director, said:  “We are delighted that Focus has been awarded best medium car by Diesel Car magazine.  Around 50 per cent of Focus cars bought are diesels and we look forward to welcoming the Focus ECOnetic Technology to the range shortly.  This will offer 83.1mpg, making it the most fuel-efficient non-hybrid family car currently available in Europe.  This independent endorsement recognises Focus’s all-round appeal, as well as the UK-based Ford engineers and manufacturing specialists responsible for the diesel powertrains.”

Other Ford models acknowledged at this year’s awards were the Ford Fiesta, Ford Mondeo and Ford S-MAX, which were runners up in their respective categories – small car, large car, estate car and MPV.

Ford‘s first global performance car will take centre stage next year with a starring role in new film blockbuster The Sweeney.

Flying Squad detectives Jack Regan (Ray Winstone) and George Carter (Ben Drew aka Plan B) will lead a cast of crime-busting officers as they give chase to London’s criminals in black Ford Focus ST hot hatchbacks.

Thanks to the Ford Focus ST’s 2.0-litre 250PS four-cylinder EcoBoost engine and explosive acceleration, the criminals will always struggle to make a clean getaway.

The new Ford Focus ST, which goes on sale in 40 countries from next year, was shown in final production-ready form at the Frankfurt motor show in September.

Anthony Ireson, Ford Britain marketing director, said:  “The new Focus ST is a hugely exciting car for Ford with terrific dynamic credibility.  It will be a car for real driving enthusiasts, so Regan and Carter won’t be disappointed.”

Last month special early-build Ford Focus ST models were secretly delivered to The Sweeney set, joining Ford Mondeos, Galaxys and Transits also being used as unmarked vehicles.

Director and co-writer Nick Love, whose prior films include The Football Factory and The Firm, said:  “It was important for me to collaborate with Ford on The Sweeney as their legacy with the original TV show is so strong – they’re the perfect partner.  I like the Ford Focus ST so much, I want one!”

Ford’s strong link with the 1970s Sweeney TV series saw Regan, Carter and their Flying Squad colleagues using a string of Ford Granadas, Consuls and Cortinas to make the streets of London a safer place.

Production company Vertigo has the use of six Ford Focus ST models during filming, which is continuing until Christmas.  Set in modern day England, The Sweeney movie also features Hayley Atwell (from Captain America), Damien Lewis (The Escapist), Steven Mackintosh (Underworld: The Rise of the Lycans) and Paul Anderson (The Firm).

Next year The Sweeney will be edited ahead of the Focus ST going on sale in the UK in the summer, followed by the film premiere in September.
