Jaguar UK has chosen Clerkenwell Design Week to showcase the one-off C-X16 concept car, but not as you may expect. Skilled clay modellers will be working on a full size model to reveal the artistry involved in sculpting the cars of the future.

Julian Thomson, Advanced Design Director, Jaguar Cars, said: ‘Jaguar is one of the most technologically advanced companies in the field of product development but we still believe in the sense of artistry.  Emotional connections are at the heart of our vehicles and the traditional process of working with clay with some of the best sculptors in the world allows us to refine them into the purest surfaces.’

Joining the C-X16 clay model at the London event are three bespoke sculptures that show the past, present and future of Jaguar. Commissioned by Julian Thomson and painted by two designers from the Jaguar design team the artwork is based on the bonnets of an E-type, C-X16 and C-X75.

Just as the specially created creations span Jaguar’s ages, so too do the vehicles on display. The XJ13, created in 1966 and the only one in the world, is joined by an XFR and XKR-S. Designed, engineered and built in the UK, both modern cars demonstrate the very best in British creativity and industry-leading engineering.

Clerkenwell design week runs in London from 22nd to 24th May 2012. The Jaguar C-X16 clay model, XFR, XKR-S, XJ13 and Jaguar sculptures are all located in the Farmiloe Building.

There is a new way to experience the Nürburgring now as Jaguar have a new model based in Germany.

The latest addition to Jaguar’s fleet at its Nürburgring Nordschleife engineering test centre is the marque’s very first taxi, albeit one with rather more ability than you may expect from a traditional cab; based on the latest all-aluminium long wheelbase XJ Supersport with Sport and Speed Pack options, Jaguar’s ‘Nürburgring taxi’ boasts 510PS from its 5.0-litre supercharged V8 engine and a top speed of 174mph, but no fare meter…

Frank Klaas, Global Head of Communications, Jaguar Land Rover gave an insight into this new model:

“We’ve been running a successful Nürburgring driving programme from our Nordschleife engineering test centre now for some time, as it’s the very best place to demonstrate the dynamic abilities of the current Jaguar XF, XJ and XK models.”

“Of these models, we found it’s the XJ Supersport that most often surprises journalists with its speed simply because they perceive it to be a large luxury car. The XJ is both those things, of course, but its aluminium architecture means it’s rigid and lightweight too, which make it a very good car on track. To underline that fact, our engineering team created this special Nürburgring taxi version in which our trained drivers can safely take passengers on very hot laps!”

Finished in non-standard matt grey paint with exterior Sport Pack, the Jaguar Nürburgring taxi is also specified with the Speed Pack – which raises its electronically limited top speed from 155mph to 174mph – but is otherwise mechanically standard. Inside there is, of course, ample room for four, although a few of the XJ’s usual creature comforts have been replaced in order to keep its occupants securely in place during the very quick laps of which it is capable. Gone are the standard leather-trimmed heated and cooled seats, and in their place are four race seats, each equipped with four-point harnesses. A full bespoke roll cage completes the interior changes.

Martin Brundle tests Jaguar XKR-S on track at Silverstone

British racing driver and Jaguar Academy of Sport Ambassador, Martin Brundle tested the Jaguar XKR-S recently at Silverstone race circuit in between his busy Formula One schedule.

Martin Brundle competed within many motorsport disciplines including, Formula One and the Le Mans 24 hour race and has a long-standing relationship with Jaguar, which he is able to continue through the Academy. The highlight of his racing career with Jaguar was winning the legendary Le Mans 24-hour race in 1990 in the XJR-12.

Martin is still a key figure within the world of motorsport and is now part of the Formula One commentary team. His dedication to motorsport is a real inspiration for the Jaguar Academy of Sport Rising Stars and something they can take on board within their respective sports.

Martin Brundle, Jaguar Academy of Sport Ambassador, commented: “I am delighted to be a part of the Jaguar Academy of Sport and help Britain’s sports stars of tomorrow. It’s great to take the XKR-S around Silverstone, it’s the most powerful production sports car Jaguar has ever built. It takes me back to my Le Mans days.”

He has dedicated his life to his sport and this kind of determination is something we try and encourage our Rising Stars to take on board. The Jaguar Academy of Sport aims to recognise, celebrate and inspire the very best of British sporting talent and success. This is fulfilled through a Bursary Fund and a unique Mentoring and Education Programme delivered through a series of workshops and talent days.

Mentoring is key to the Academy and provides all the Rising Stars with the non-financial support they need in order to be successful and provides our Rising Stars with the opportunity to work with Britain’s sporting greats and their heroes who they hope to emulate.

The Jaguar XF has once again won the Best Executive Car category in the Diesel Car Magazine Awards – the fourth time the British-built Jaguar XF has scooped the award.

Commenting on the award, Ian Robertson, Editor of Diesel Car Magazine, said: “As a prestige car to please an executive owner, the Jaguar XF has it all.  You get a terrific driving experience in the XF, cosseted in a cabin that is as comfortable as it is clever.”

Judged by the editorial team at Diesel Car Magazine, the award recognises the best mix of comfort, refinement, style, efficiency and performance in each class. The Jaguar XF emerged as a clear winner in the executive category.
