Seven years in a row for Mercedes-Benz S-Class at Auto Express awards

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class has retained its position at the top of  the UK’s luxury saloon sector, winning Best Luxury Car for an astonishing seventh consecutive year at the Auto Express New Car Awards.

Theses New Car Awards are the annual celebration of the best new cars available on the market, and are voted for by Auto Express readers.

Steve Fowler, Editor-in-Chief of Auto Express, said: “No rival can match the peerless comfort, refinement and all-round appeal of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, which is why it has won our Best Luxury Car Award seven times. It is a technological tour de force that oozes class and desirability.”

The S-Class has always been the industry leader when it comes to safety, comfort and driver assistance technologies, including the Intelligent Light System with Adaptive Highbeam Assist, Advanced Parking Guidance, Attention Assist, BAS Brake Assist, DIRECT CONTROL suspension, PRE-SAFE and COMAND system with Speed Limit Assist.

Marcus Breitschwerdt, President and CEO Mercedes-Benz UK Ltd, commented: “We never take winning awards for granted, and it is fantastic that all the updates we’ve done for this iconic car have once again paid off by getting the coveted Auto Express Award.  The latest BlueTEC models use some of the most advanced, clean engine technology – with emissions that would have made a family hatch proud only a few years ago – all in a large, luxurious saloon.”

As the flagship model in its saloon family, the S-Class represents the hallmark of Mercedes-Benz design na technology features. When the Mercedes-Benz 220 model – the originator of today’s S-Class range – arrived in 1951, it single-handedly created the luxury limousine class and became the definitive luxury standard against which all subsequent rivals would be measured.

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class was the first car in the world to receive the TÜV Environmental Certificate (the TÜV Group is one of the world’s largest independent product certification organisations) which takes into account the entire life of the car, and the total impact the car has on the environment from well to wheel.

The new technology and features created by Mercedes-Benz and installed first on the S-Class will often become available through-out the Mercedes-Benz range.

Deliveries of this new Peugeot, the 208, started this week. Peugeot have been surprised by interest in this new model, even though the order books only opened a few weeks ago, dealers have taken over 3,500 orders.

The 208 is a three- and five-door hatchback, available in five trim levels. Prices start from £9,995  with a wide range of engine options.  The diesel engines have CO2 from just 87g/km and all are below 99g/km. the petrol engines, with an all-new three-cylinder, start from 99g/km.

The Peugeot RCZ Sports Coupé won the Best Coupé Class.

Steve said; “The RCZ continues to reign supreme as the best coupé on the road thanks to its winning blend of great styling and agile handling. Even better, it’s much more affordable than its looks suggest.”

Tim Zimmerman, Managing Director at Peugeot UK, said; “This is a great week for Peugeot.  In the first week that the new 208 goes on sale in the UK, we are especially pleased to receive this key award.  The Auto Express Best Supermini award is the 208’s first international product accolade and recognises its lead position in the highly competitive small car sector. We are confident it is a stylish product of true regeneration, and hopefully this will be the first of many awards to come.”

“That the RCZ Sports Coupé has again – for the third year running – been awarded the Auto Express Best Coupé prize serves to demonstrate our improved product desirability, which increases with every new car we launch.”
