Seven years in a row for Mercedes-Benz S-Class at Auto Express awards

Seven years in a row for Mercedes-Benz S-Class at Auto Express awards

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class has retained its position at the top of  the UK’s luxury saloon sector, winning Best Luxury Car for an astonishing seventh consecutive year at the Auto Express New Car Awards.

Mercedes-Benz S-Class

Theses New Car Awards are the annual celebration of the best new cars available on the market, and are voted for by Auto Express readers.

Steve Fowler, Editor-in-Chief of Auto Express, said: “No rival can match the peerless comfort, refinement and all-round appeal of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, which is why it has won our Best Luxury Car Award seven times. It is a technological tour de force that oozes class and desirability.”

The S-Class has always been the industry leader when it comes to safety, comfort and driver assistance technologies, including the Intelligent Light System with Adaptive Highbeam Assist, Advanced Parking Guidance, Attention Assist, BAS Brake Assist, DIRECT CONTROL suspension, PRE-SAFE and COMAND system with Speed Limit Assist.

Marcus Breitschwerdt, President and CEO Mercedes-Benz UK Ltd, commented: “We never take winning awards for granted, and it is fantastic that all the updates we’ve done for this iconic car have once again paid off by getting the coveted Auto Express Award.  The latest BlueTEC models use some of the most advanced, clean engine technology – with emissions that would have made a family hatch proud only a few years ago – all in a large, luxurious saloon.”

As the flagship model in its saloon family, the S-Class represents the hallmark of Mercedes-Benz design na technology features. When the Mercedes-Benz 220 model – the originator of today’s S-Class range – arrived in 1951, it single-handedly created the luxury limousine class and became the definitive luxury standard against which all subsequent rivals would be measured.

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class was the first car in the world to receive the TÜV Environmental Certificate (the TÜV Group is one of the world’s largest independent product certification organisations) which takes into account the entire life of the car, and the total impact the car has on the environment from well to wheel.

The new technology and features created by Mercedes-Benz and installed first on the S-Class will often become available through-out the Mercedes-Benz range.

Video: SLS AMG Roadster and the hole in one golf shot

Formula 1™ legend and DTM driver David Coulthard, a 571hp SLS AMG Roadster and Professional golfer Jake Shepherd  managed to set a record with a rather extraordinary hole in one!

Captured on film which the SLS AMG Roadster landed the record of ‘farthest golf shot to be caught in a moving car, ever’. Professional golfer Jake Shepherd hit a golf ball at 178mph into the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster supercar, which was moving at a rate of 120mph when it caught the ball 275 meters away from the tee.

The extraordinary film shows the exact moment when David Coulthard caught the speeding golf ball between the seats of the SLS AMG Roadster.

Speaking about the astonishing catch, Coulthard said: “The only way to track the ball was to keep your eyes on it all the time: it’s a real adrenaline rush but it’s not the most comfortable thing to do because for a moment, you’re not watching the road!”

He continued: “I was as happy as I’ve ever been winning a Grand Prix because I was so surprised quite frankly that it went in, and went in so solidly!”

David George, Mercedes-Benz Passenger Cars Marketing Director, added: “The SLS AMG Roadster is an extraordinary car so we wanted to do something extraordinary with it to celebrate our association with the upcoming Open Championship, and what better way than to break a world record and create such an exciting film!”

The amazing feat was not only caught on camera, but also independently verified by a Guinness World Record adjudicator who confirmed the unbelievable achievement secured the title of farthest golf shot caught in a moving car.

The new SLS AMG GT Gullwing and Roadster

The new SLS AMG GT Gullwing and Roadster

The SLS AMG Coupé that appeared in 2009 was the first vehicle developed independently by Mercedes-AMG. The new gullwing model was followed in 2011 by the open-top SLS AMG Roadster as well as the SLS AMG GT3 customer sports racing car.

With the new SLS AMG GT, available as a Coupé and Roadster, the model range has now grown to five variants. The sixth model is expected to follow in 2013 in the form of the new Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG E-CELL: Mercedes-AMG is planning an exclusive series-production run of the purely electric-driven super sports car.

The specific assembly area for the SLS AMG is located in the largest Mercedes-Benz production plant in Sindelfingen. The AMG 6.3-litre V8 engine comes directly from the AMG engine workshop in Affalterbach, where it is hand-assembled according to the traditional “one man, one engine” philosophy.

The new 2013 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT boasts enhanced driving dynamics and even better on-track performance. With an enhanced maximum output of 591 hp (435 kW), a re-calibrated AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 7-speed sports transmission and the redeveloped AMG Adaptive Suspension, the new SLS AMG GT – which is available both as a Coupé and a Roadster – has raised the bar even higher. As a further highlight, a new optional AMG designo STYLE interior package is now also available for the 2013 SLS AMG GT.

According to Tobias Moers, Board Member and Head of Overall Vehicle Development for Mercedes-AMG GmbH: “The new SLS AMG GT demonstrates the sort of potential which lies in AMG’s super sports cars. With its even higher levels of performance, the SLS AMG GT excites out on the race track in particular by providing an emotionally enjoyable and passionate driving experience.”

The interior of the new SLS GT include a designo leather finish for the entire dashboard, the beltlines and door armrests, the handrest on the centre console, AMG floor mats in black with porcelain leather edging, roof lining in Alcantara ® porcelain, and the parcel shelf (Coupé) or roll-over bar (Roadster). Seams finished in contrasting colours create exciting highlights and underscore the high-quality, hand-finished nature of this new leather package.

Available colour combinations include mocha brown/porcelain, titanium grey pearl/porcelain and mystic red/porcelain. The colours of all of the elements of the interior appointment such as the roof liner, carpet and centre console are perfectly matched to each other.

Other attractive optional extras for all SLS AMG models include (extract):

  • AMG carbon-fibre exterior mirrors
  • AMG carbon-fibre engine compartment cover
  • AMG Interior Carbon-Fibre package (carbon-fibre trim, trim on seat backrest and side, door sill panels)
  • AMG ceramic high-performance composite braking system
  • AMG Performance Media
  • AMG 10-spoke forged wheels in other colour variants
  • AMG carbon-fibre trim
  • AIRSCARF (Roadster)
  • Bang & Olufsen BeoSound AMG surround sound system

Mercedes-AMG has achieved the output of 435 kW (591 hp) through in-engine dethrottling measures in conjunction with an increase in peak pressure. The GT version of the AMG 6.3-litre eight-cylinder front mid-engine responds with even greater agility to accelerator pedal movements and excites with even sportier-tuned performance characteristics. The AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 7‑speed sports transmission located on the rear axle is more direct and spontaneous in the manual “M” transmission mode: thanks to newly developed gear change functions and optimised transmission control, it has been possible to shorten reaction time significantly.

When changing gears manually via the real metal shift paddles on the AMG Performance steering wheel, control commands right through to the noticeable gear change are executed markedly quicker than previously – all of which is ideal when striving to achieve some ambitious lap times on a closed-off race circuit.

The reaction time experienced by the driver is made even more emotional as a result of more distinct gear changes. The automatic double-declutching function when shifting down is also more pronounced in the SLS AMG GT. Due to an increase in engine torque in manual mode, the shift procedure is even quicker than previously – and is accompanied by some passionate acoustic feedback for the driver. Overall, the optimisation of the dual clutch transmissioncomplements the sporty nature of the SLS AMG GT perfectly.

Prices released of new Mercedes-Benz SL

Prices released of new Mercedes-Benz SL

As the sun shines brightly here at MC Towers it seems the idea day to learn the prices of new Mercedes roadster.

Not even Mercedes-Benz can control the weather (outside of their cars) but a sunny day will help deliver the pricing for this the sixth generation roadster.

The prices for the UK are as follows:

The SL 350 is priced at £72,495 on-the-road

The SL 500 will cost £83,445

The above models will arrive in the UK in June 2012, followed by the SL 63 AMG and the SL 65 AMG later in the year.

Lighter, leaner, sportier and more efficient, the new SL is built almost entirely of aluminium and powered by Mercedes-Benz BlueDIRECT direct-injection engines which have improved fuel efficiency and reduced emissions by up to 30 per cent compared with the previous model, while delivering even more performance.

  • Advanced aluminium construction reduces weight by up to 140 kg
  • 3.5-litre V6 and 4.7-litre V8 BlueDIRECT direct-injection petrol engines combine enhanced performance and improved efficiency
  • Three roof options available including MAGIC SKY CONTROL
  • HANDS-FREE ACCESS allows remote opening and closing of boot
  • Innovations include MAGIC VISION CONTROL wipers and Frontbass audio speaker system
  • Passive and active safety package makes SL the world’s safest roadster

The SL 350 is powered by a BlueDIRECT 3.5-litre V6 engine. This direct injection 3,498 cc power plant is 30 per cent more economical than before, yet with 306 hp at 6,500 rpm and 370 Nm of torque at 3,500 – 5,250 rpm it also delivers sharper performance, accelerating the two-seater to 62 mph in 5.9 seconds and onto a 155 mph electronically limited top speed. This thrilling performance is complemented by excellent combined economy of 37.7mpg and CO2 emissions of 176 g/km.

Performance and economy figures for the SL 500 are equally impressive. The  4,663 cc BlueDIRECT V8 engine – which combines direct injection and twin-turbo technologies – develops 435 hp at 5,250 rpm and an impressive 700 Nm of torque that is available from a low 1,800 rpm to 3,500 rpm. The 1,785 kg SL 500 will sprint to 62 mph in just 4.6 seconds, and like the SL 350 is electronically limited to 155 mph.

Even with the increase in power and torque over the outgoing model, the efficiency of the SL 500 has improved by 26 per cent, now returning 30.7 mpg on the combined cycle, while emitting 214 g/km of CO2.

The new SL-Class even saves water as a result of the MAGIC VISION CONTROL intelligent wash/wipe system which is fitted as standard. This applies the ideal amount of washer fluid to the screen just in front of the wiper blades to ensure the driver’s visibility is not impaired during cleaning and occupants are not splashed when the roof is down. What will they think of next!

The new SL-Class also offers buyers HANDS-FREE ACCESS to the boot, as part of the optional Keyless-Go Comfort Package.By waving a foot under the rear bumper, the luggage compartment can be opened or closed – a world first.

The SL’s aluminium construction – a first for a Mercedes-Benz series production car – reduces weight by up to 140 kg, despite significant increases in safety and luxury features. The only non-aluminium body parts are the magnesium sections of the rear floor and the high-strength steel implants in the front windscreen pillars for peerless open-top safety.

The body is also significantly stiffer than that of the previous model. This provides an ideal platform for the chassis – which features semi-active adjustable damping or optional Active Body Control, and Direct Steer speed-sensitive power steering – to deliver more nimble and sporty responses with no sacrifice in comfort.

The new SL-Class can justifiably claim to be the safest roadster in the world as a result of its comprehensive standard protection features, which include PRE-SAFE, NECK-PRO, ATTENTION ASSIST and ADAPTIVE BRAKE. The pro-active DISTRONIC PLUS AND PRE-SAFE BRAKE are among the optional safety features. More than ever, the Mercedes-Benz SL lives up to Gottfried Daimler’s ethos: ‘The Best or Nothing.’

Standard specification includes the following:

Pre-safe, Attention Assist and Active Bonnet

Intelligent Light System with bi-Xenon headlamps

Magic Vision Control heated adaptive wiper system

COMAND Online with Media Interface

Sports seats trimmed in leather upholstery

18” five-twin-spoke light-alloy wheels

Mika, Nico, Monaco and a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster

Mika, Nico, Monaco and a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster

It’s the Mercedes-Benz meeting we’d all like to be involved with – Mika Hakkinen and Nico Rosberg meet up for a chat in Monaco.

Before Nico gets to work for this weekend’s Formula One Grand Prix he takes time out to have  a chat with Mika before they take to the streets in a very special AMG!

Mika Häkkinen was the first Mercedes-Benz world champion of the modern era, and a two-time title winner in 1998 and 1999 with McLaren Mercedes; Nico Rosberg is the first man to win a Grand Prix at the wheel of a Silver Arrow since the great Juan Manuel Fangio, in the third season of the return of the Silver Arrows. On the eve of the race around their home streets, the two men met to discuss their experiences as part of one of the most spectacular events in world sport.

The histories of Mika Häkkinen and Nico Rosberg have been intertwined for more than twenty years, when Nico was just a young boy and Mika worked with Keke Rosberg, who led his management team.
“I don’t remember when we first met – maybe Mika does!” laughs Nico when the question comes.
“Well, I started working with Keke at the end of 1987,” recalls Mika. “I think the first time we met must have been down here in Monaco in the early ‘90s. I was visiting Keke, and you were playing in your room! It’s possible I was his first sponsor in karting – do you remember that?”
“Yeah, sure,” laughs Nico. “It was 1997, I was 11 years old and competing in the French go-karting championship. I had a poster in my room with all my sponsors on there, and one of them was you!”
“My son is eleven now,” says Mika, picking up the thread. “I’m sure I did a contract with Keke that one day, when Nico will win races and be world champion, he has to start supporting my son Hugo!”
If the early stages of Nico’s career were supported by Mika – who today himself is a partner with Didier Coton in Aces Management and has, among others, young Finn Valtteri Bottas under his wing – the parallels between the two have only grown stronger as time has passed.
Both Mika and Nico had to wait until their seventh Formula One season before climbing the top step of the podium – Mika after 96 races, at the 1997 European Grand Prix in Jerez; Nico in his 111th start, at this year’s Chinese Grand Prix. And both in their third seasons driving Mercedes-Benz-powered cars.
“Your first victory in Formula One always feels like it is a long time coming,” explains Mika.
“And especially in my case – but when it arrives, the feeling is just amazing. But problems are part of life, and winning or losing, they don’t disappear. You need to keep understanding the cause of disappointments and where you and the team can improve. There is no point having your face upside down for one week – it’s better to pick up the phone, travel, see people, talk, organise yourself. Then you know that at the next event, you will be stronger – and if not the car, then yourself; you can always be better. Because the day when you have a car to win, you have to be ready. If not, it’s too late. I knew that one day I was going to win, it just took a long time.”
“I had exactly the same feeling – Ross, all the guys, kept telling me that the win would come, I just needed to stay patient and take my opportunity,” agrees Nico.
“Of course, you get frustrated if it doesn’t go perfectly, but time takes that away and you keep going, follow the development, communicate constantly with the team.”
“Nico did a perfect weekend in China and deserves full credit for that win,” emphasises Mika.
“It was not depending on circumstances or luck, but purely on his hard work. As a Mercedes-Benz ambassador, it was great not only to watch his achievements, but to enjoy seeing Mercedes-Benz back on the top step of the podium.”
Inevitably, the conversation soon turns to the unique challenge of racing around the Monegasque streets, which have been home to both of them for more than 20 years. For Nico, the tunnel was once the route to school, in the passenger seat next to his Mum or on the school bus. And that ‘local’ feel is one that Mika says remains throughout the weekend.
“I had some great victories in my career, but Monaco was something special,” remembers Mika.
“I have lived here for 20 years and the thing you realise is that the people who work on the race track are also the people who live and work in Monaco – the police, the pompiers. In everyday life, these are the guys you see in the street and they say ‘hi’ as you walk past. To win in Monaco is like winning in your home streets, and you recognise faces all through the weekend.”
“It’s home for me too, of course,” picks up Nico.
“I’ve grown up here, all my friends are here and my family, I know everybody and it’s very special to race here. Mentally, it’s quite a demanding weekend. You have a lot going on, a lot of PR events and appointments. Plus on track, too, it’s a bit more intense – but not so much. You need to be super concentrated at every circuit.”
“That’s true. But what changed for me was that, when I got a car that I would win races with, Monaco became more important for some reason. When you are hunting pole position in Monaco, your mind changes; you put yourself in a higher power, even though you think you are doing it already. When you are fighting for P11 or P12, you always think you are doing your maximum. But when I started fighting for pole, it just happened that I was working even harder to reach my goal – but not purposely. And of course, we changed the car, too: the steering lock, and the seating position to sit higher in the car, because the aero was not so important and we wanted to see the Armco properly.”
“That’s interesting, because we definitely make changes, too,” says Nico. “But I don’t think it’s common practice, even today.”
With that, the two men are off to inspect the circuit at the wheel of the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster.
Over the years, Mercedes-Benz has been synonymous with success in Monaco – from the three consecutive victories in 1935, 36 and 37 for Fagioli, Caracciola and von Brauchitsch respectively; to the seven Formula One victories for Mercedes-Benz power, including three of the last five. And the MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team will be working hard to add a new milestone to the company’s heritage this weekend.
Mercedes-Benz make it four in a row at Fleet Awards

Mercedes-Benz make it four in a row at Fleet Awards

Mercedes-Benz UK is today celebrating yet another double win for both car and van at the Fleet World Honours – its fourth doubles win in a row!

The Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class has knocked the S-Class off the top spot to pick up Best Luxury Car, and the mighty Sprinter van has received the prestigious Safety Award; a Fleet World Honours award win every year since 2008 for the Sprinter. The trophies were presented at a special ceremony held at the Royal Automobile Club, Pall Mall on Wednesday 16th May.

The CLS has the elegance and dynamism of a coupé with the comfort and functionality of a saloon and was the first Mercedes-Benz vehicle to have frameless, all-aluminium doors, as well as being the first passenger car in the world to offer LED High Performance headlamps as standard (for Sport models).

With more than a dozen driving assistance systems including Active Blind Spot Assist and Active Lane Keeping Assist, which is now linked to ESP for first time, the CLS-Class builds on the pioneering four-door coupé design of its predecessor, while forging an entirely new identity.

Mercedes-Benz vehicles follow the philosophy that there is no such thing as too much safety. The Sprinter van has always led the way in this field, and was one of the first vans in the UK market to be fitted with ESP electronic stability control and a front bulkhead as standard.

With new additions like ADAPTIVE ESP®, an innovative driving dynamics control system which for the first time takes the load situation of the vehicle into account and combines the functions of the anti-lock braking system (ABS), acceleration skid control (ASR), electronic brake force distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BAS) and the optional Start-off Assist system (AAS), the Sprinter is still one of the safest vans on the road today.

Commenting on the Best Luxury Car Award win, Fleet World Editor, Steve Moody, said: “It may not be the most practical, but the brilliant CLS offers luxurious, stylish motoring thanks to its elegant lines and classy cabin. For those at the top end of the executive sector, or somebody looking for a luxurious limousine at a very competitive price, the CLS provides the answer.”

Van Fleet World Editor, John Kendall, said of the Sprinter: “Safety has been ingrained in the Mercedes-Benz culture for many more years than many of its rivals and that’s as true of its commercial vehicles as its cars. The Sprinter was the first van to be fitted with ESP and load-sensing ESP as standard, followed by the Vito, while this feature is still not standard on all rival models. And there’s a long list of safety options available with Mercedes-Benz vans from airbags to reversing cameras, tyre pressure monitoring, headlamps with cornering function and many more. Most of these features have been available for some time and it’s only recently that rivals have started to catch up.”

The Fleet World Honours are presented annually to those motor manufacturers, service companies and individuals who have, in the opinion of the judges, achieved the highest possible level of excellence in their sector.

The judging panel is chaired by Steve Moody, Editor of Fleet World, and includes John Kendall, Alex Grant and Ross Durkin from the Fleet World editorial team. Residual value, maintenance and reliability data is provided by ALD Automotive, Hitachi Capital Vehicle Solutions, Lex Autolease, LeasePlan and Arval. Market value data is provided by EurotaxGlass and VIPDATA.

Nick Andrews, Head of Fleet at Mercedes-Benz UK, added: “To be crowned as Best Luxury Car at the Fleet World Honours for the previous three years was fantastic, but to be crowned again this year with another exceptional product in the CLS, is truly outstanding.”

Steve Bridge, Van Sales and Marketing Director at Mercedes-Benz UK, concluded: “It is recognition of the strength of the Sprinter to be collecting an award at the Fleet World Honours for four consecutive years. For the 2012 award to be a safety one is a fantastic acknowledgement of the innovations that the Sprinter has championed.”

Vito Sport Facebook page makes the top ten

Vito Sport Facebook page makes the top ten

According to the SocialBakers Social Media Report for April, the Mercedes-Benz Vito Sport Facebook page has been ranked in the top ten UK brands by response rate.

Response rate is calculated as the number of page administrator responses made to user-generated wall posts, divided by the total number of user-generated posts. The Vito Sport Facebook page, which had a fantastic response rate of 71% in April 2012, is the only vehicle manufacturer brand in the UK to be in the top ten for this category.

Kevin Ferris, Van Marketing Manager at Mercedes-Benz UK, said: “We are delighted to be ranked so highly for Facebook page response rate in the UK. We work hard to keep our fan-base updated and entertained with exclusive content and make it our mission to be the best van Facebook page in the UK.

“It is very important to us to engage and enter dialogue with our communities and this ranking demonstrates our passion and commitment to social media and interacting with our fans.”

The Vito Sport Facebook page has almost 19,000 fans and regularly offers followers exclusive competitions, video and picture content and Facebook takeovers from leading mountain bike champions who are sponsored by Mercedes-Benz Vito Sport, giving biking enthusiasts the opportunity to interact with their sporting idols.

‘Winners in Green’ Mercedes-Benz S-Class and M-Class are the most environment-friendly

‘Winners in Green’ Mercedes-Benz S-Class and M-Class are the most environment-friendly

The “ÖkoTrend” institute has declared the S250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY and the ML250 BlueTEC 4MATIC to be the most environmentally friendly cars in their class. This is what lay behind the professional journal Auto Test’s decision to present its “Winners in Green” awards to both Mercedes-Benz models.

Since 1997 the ÖkoTrend institute has been publishing an environmental ranking for cars on an annual basis. In order to reach a conclusion the institute evaluates the environmental compatibility of several tens of thousands of data relating to around a thousand car models in twelve categories. This stringent assessment includes information on consumption, pollutant emissions, manufacturing, logistics, recycling and the manufacturers’ environmental systems.

This year two models from Mercedes-Benz celebrated victories – the S 250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY in the luxury class and the ML250 BlueTEC 4MATIC in the “SUV” category. This led to their “Auto Test Winners in Green!” awards from the specialist publication Auto Test.

Both of the winning models are driven by the same base engine: a four-cylinder diesel unit with direct injection and turbocharging. It has a displacement of 2143 cubic centimetres, from which it delivers an output of 150 kW (204 hp), placing a powerful torque of 500 newton metres at the motorist’s disposal. The S250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY uses it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.2 seconds, whilst the ML250 BlueTEC 4MATIC takes 9.0 seconds to complete this sprint.

In spite of this sporty performance, both of the models are frugal with fuel. The S250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY consumes 5.7 l/100 km combined (which corresponds to CO2 emissions of 149 g/km combined). The ML250 BlueTEC 4MATIC consumes 6.0 litres over 100 kilometres, with CO2 emissions of 158 g/km (both figures combined).

George Harrison’s Aston Martin DB5 sells for £350k

George Harrison’s Aston Martin DB5 sells for £350k

An Aston Martin ordered by George Harrison in 1965 sold at auction in London on Wednesday for £350,000.00 after fierce bidding from around the world.

Manufactured in late 1964, the DB5/1896/R was supplied new on January 1st 1965 through Brydor Cars of Brooklands in Surrey to the famous Beatle and had created huge interest when it was put up for sale at the COYS True Greats Auction held at the Royal Horticultural Halls in Westminster.

There was intense bidding in the room and from telephone bidders in the United States and elsewhere. The car was eventually knocked down to an anonymous Beatle and Aston Martin fan from Houston in Texas who said:

“George Harrison would be amazed about all the money his car is going to raise for Christian causes.”

Recently, model and photographer Patti Boyd, who was married to George Harrison when he owned the DB5, was re-united with the car when it was showcased at the St Pancras Renaissance Hotel in London.

Chris Routledge, Managing Director at car auction house COYS said: “There was a battle royal for this car which went for some £150,000.00 over its estimate.

The sale saw some £4.5 million pounds worth of cars being sold.

A Cord 810 Phaeton owned by Jimmy Page and Duncan Bannatyne sold for £80,000 and a Mercedes Benz 300 SL Roadster which had been stored in an Edinburgh garage for the last 23 years made £343,000, £100,000 over its estimate. A Mercedes Benz 540 K formerly owned by Bernie Ecclestone, which had been estimated at £500,000, sold for £864,000.

Chris Routledge, Managing Director of COYS said: “It was a fantastic sale with dealers and collectors from all over the world participating. There is also no doubt that many people who in the past invested in stock and shares are now looking to classic cars as a good investment for the future.”
