Lamborghini produces the 1000th Aventador

The Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 achieved an important milestone in Lamborghini history as the 1,000th vehicle produced was delivered today.

Lamborghini Aventador

The Argos Orange Aventador with chassis number 1,000 rolled off the assembly line, destined for Germany. Its new owner, Hans Scheidecker, received the keys today from Automobili Lamborghini President and CEO, Stephan Winkelmann. The Bavarian architect is a passionate Lamborghini customer, already owning a Lamborghini Diablo.

The Sant’ Agata Bolognese plant’s productivity has noticeably increased for the Aventador LP 700-4 compared to the previous flagship model. The Murciélago took two years and five months before the 1,000th example rolled off the production line.

Launched at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2001, the Murciélago reached the 1,000-vehicle milestone in February 2004. The Aventador has taken just one year and three months, with production increasing from three vehicles a day in Q3 2011 to 4.5 today.

Along with Lamborghini’s own production milestone the V12 Aventador from Sant’ Agata Bolognese  has achieved  36 international awards for its design and innovative technological solutions. The success of the Aventador is also demonstrated by its order book, which continues to cover the next 18 months of production.

Lamborghini opens new energy saving prototype development building

Lamborghini opens new energy saving prototype development building

Lamborghini has opened a new building designed for the development of prototypes and pre-series vehicles. The building is the first multi-story industrial building in Italy with a Class A energy rating.
The ceremony, yesterday, was attended by Corrad Clini, Minister of the Environment, Land and Sea; Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini; Paola Gazzolo, Regional Councillor for Territorial Security of Emilia-Romagna; and Daniela Occhiali, Mayor of Sant’Agata Bolognese, as well as numerous distinguished dignitaries and officials. This new building represents a further development in Lamborghini’s strategy towards environmental sustainability. Moreover, it shows Lamborghini’s desire to send a positive message of recovery to the Emilia region, hit hard by the recent earthquakes.
As further proof of Lamborghini’s solidarity with the towns and cities impacted, the company has made donations towards the rebuilding of five school laboratories. In addition, Lamborghini announced at the press conference that a part of the proceeds from the events celebrating Automobili Lamborghini’s 50th anniversary in 2013 will be contributed to help rebuild cultural treasures and places of worship in areas damaged by the earthquake.
“Our new building confirms Lamborghini’s commitment not only to environmental sustainability and energy efficiency, but also to advanced technology and innovation with an eye on the future” said Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of the Sant’Agata Bolognese-based company.“The earthquakes that recently struck our region caused serious problems that have placed a considerable strain on us, on our families, and on our local area. However, we know that the strength to begin a new springs from the daily commitment and the work that each of us brings to bear. That’s why today’s inauguration also has a symbolic meaning of renaissance and of a strong impetus for recovery”.“Inaugurating a sustainable, antiseismic industrial building here today at Lamborghini, in the heart of the area struck by the earthquake, sends an important signal,” commented Corrado Clini, Minister of Environment, Land and Sea. “It expresses the strong, determined desire to move forward that is evident in the Emilia area.”

The New Lamborghini Prototype Building

Developed in cooperation with the Prospazio engineering studio, the new multi-story structure was specially designed to earn the Class A industrial energy rating (yearly energy consumption: ≤ 8 Kwh/m3) and is the first industrial building in Italy to be built with such characteristics.

This result was achieved by utilizing latest-generation solutions and techniques for the external facings. In fact, the façade consist of special walls made of triple-layer polycarbonate and of ventilated walls covered with ultrathin ceramic cladding, which were specifically created in the “Lamborghini black” color and provide a high level of thermal insulation. The new building also meets today’s latest anti-seismic regulations.

The building will then be equipped with a photovoltaic system that generates enough power to meet its yearly electricity needs, so it will have zero CO2 impact. This requirement will become the standard that all new Lamborghini buildings must meet.

On the second floor of the building, a “mini” assembly line with advanced technical solutions has been set up to duplicate the entire range of assembly steps performed on a standard production line. The miniature line will be used to carefully study the steps in assembling pre-series models, so that high standards of quality can be reached during subsequent industrial production.

The same line can be used to build a small series of vehicles such as the Sesto Elemento technological demonstrator introduced at the Paris Motor Show, with 20 units being produced as a limited edition.

Hot and eventful Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo race at Paul Ricard

Hot and eventful Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo race at Paul Ricard

After winning in hot conditions on Saturday, Andrea Amici went on to win the second race of the weekend at Paul Ricard under a grey sky. After his accident and a precautionary visit to the nearby hospital, Adrian Zaugg was ruled out of the second race of the weekend with a sore neck.

Pole-sitter Amici (#54) led the field into the first corner, but the Italian had Cedric Leimer (#63) right behind him. The two leading cars stayed close to each other, but were able to pull away from the other competitors. At the same time Matteo Zucchi (#22) and Leonardo Geraci (#20) were in a big battle for third place. That battle was briefly interrupted when Geraci went wide at turn 2, but a lap later he was right behind Zucchi again and kept fighting for position until the pit stops.

As soon as the pit window opened Leimer pulled in, but on his way into the pit lane the Swiss driver crossed the white line and he was given a drive through penalty. One lap later Amici and Geraci pitted, allowing Zucchi to take the lead ahead of David Hallyday, the French pop singer, in the Automobili Lamborghini VIP Car #1. Hallyday briefly took the lead when Zucchi pitted one lap earlier. When all cars had completed their mandatory stop Amici was back in the lead, Leimer followed at 4.6 seconds.

Dimitri Enjalbert (#69) returned to the track in fourth place and set the fastest lap of the race on his first full lap after the pit stops. The French driver moved up into third place when Leimer came in to serve his penalty and the passed Geraci to take second with 17 minutes remaining.

With 15 minutes remaining Amici had completed 15 laps and he was now 17.8 seconds clear of Enjalbert, who kept putting in fast lap times.

Enjalbert meanwhile pushed hard to rapidly close the gap to Amici. The French driver was almost two seconds a lap quicker than the Italian and within just a handful of laps the gap was down from 20 seconds to just under four seconds as the cars went into the final lap.

The Touring Auto 2000 S.R.L driver did whatever he could and nearly caught the Autocarrozzeria Imperiale S.R.L car. Despite flashing lights in his rear-view mirror Amici did not succumb to this pressure and crossed the line in first place to win his second race of the weekend and to bring home an AM class overall win. Enjalbert finished just over a second behind in second place.

The amateur class provided some great results with a podium position and two cars in the top five with Laurent Jenny finishing in a strong fifth place behind the pairing of Matteo Zucchi and Alberto Cola.

Andrea Amici, #54, P1 (PRO AM)
“A second win this weekend, so naturally I am very, very pleased. I must of course thank everyone at Autocarrozzeria Imperale for doing a great job. The race started well for me, I managed to open a good gap up, but after the stops, Enjalbert was very fast and I misread the gap a little bit, so I pushed harder and we managed to hold on for the win.”

Bernard Delhez/Dimitri Enjalbert, #69, P2 (AM/PRO AM)
Delhez: “I started the race in 11th and made it to P5 at the hand over. It’s great because I am measuring myself against Dimitri of course and I have improved the gap between us to maybe 3s per lap. Thanks to Dimitri, I really believe he is the best driver in the series.”

Enjalbert: “We have progressed well since the start of the season and something has really clicked for us. Bernard’s improvement is very strong. Between us, if we hadn’t had mechanical problems yesterday, we would have been on the podium. Here we are in the middle of the championship and there are still many points on offer, so I think we are still in the game.”

Leonardo Geraci, #20, P3 (AM)
“In the first stint, I had a big battle with (Matteo) Zucchi. After the stops, Zucchi had an incident with another car, so the battle ended and I took the place. In the closing laps, Enjalbert was very quick, but a good finish for me, I’m really pleased.”

David Hallyday/Mario Fasanetto, #1, P11 (AM)
Hallyday: “Overall, a great day, I really enjoyed myself again. The start was tough as I had a bump with another car and it put the steering out of alignment, but I managed to find a good, consistent pace. Thank you to Lamborghini for all the fun this weekend.”

Fasanetto: “David handed over the car in a good position. We were carrying some steering damage – it was okay but a little tricky. On the final lap, I had an unavoidable situation with Tanca who braked a bit early than usual, so it didn’t finish perfectly, but I think David did a great job, improving every lap all weekend.”

Lamborghini celebrate Blancpain Super Trofeo Asia Series race in Sepang

Lamborghini celebrate Blancpain Super Trofeo Asia Series race in Sepang

Italian supercar manufacturer Automobili Lamborghini and title sponsor Blancpain celebrated the debut of the Asia Series of the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo at the Sepang International Circuit this weekend.

Already in its fourth year in Europe, the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo in Asia will now provide an exclusive platform for gentlemen drivers, entering individually or in teams of two, to compete at the wheel of the bespoke Lamborghini Super Trofeo race car in one of the world’s fastest one-make series. With 18 teams from China, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Japan, the opening weekend of the Asia Series saw the brand’s extreme, uncompromising and quintessentially Italian super race cars showcased at their best in two fiercely competitive races.

Crowds of spectators watched the Super Trofeo teams follow the format of a 50-minute practice session providing precious time to get accustomed to the track, before a 35-minute qualifying session and two official races each 50 minutes long. A compulsory driver change window of ten minutes in both races adds to the excitement.

This year’s Asia Series complements the European Lamborghini Blancpain SuperTrofeo series, now in its fourth season. In Asia, the series visits some of Asia’s highest-standard international circuits including Sepang, Fuji, Ordos, Zhuhai, Penbay and concluding in Shanghai for November’s grand finale.

“The Super Trofeo Asia Series is an important milestone for our company,” said Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. President and CEO Stephan Winkelmann.

“Lamborghini is already well-known in the region for its iconic supercars, and now we are also sharing our passion for motorsports with other enthusiasts across Asia. We are also delighted to be joined by such an international group of gentleman drivers, and we look forward to following them throughout the series as they experience Lamborghini in its most extreme form.”

More than a motorsport event, the Super Trofeo Championship is also the ultimate lifestyle experience for those who dare to ride Lamborghini’s most extreme bull. As a luxury brand and advocate of expert craftsmanship, Lamborghini is honored to partner with Blancpain, the prestigious Swiss watchmaker and the European series’ title sponsor, for its first series in Asia.

Mr. Delamuraz, Vice President and Head of Marketing of Blancpain said: “Over the past several years, Blancpain has been increasing its presence in Asia. We are really excited to launch a Super Trofeo series in Asia this year. This new concept, similar to the Super Trofeo in Europe, will allow passionate motorsport lovers to race on Asia’s most prestigious racetracks! For Blancpain and Lamborghini, this project is the result of mature reflection, based on a three-year partnership in Europe as well as on our knowledge of our local client’s expectations.”

The series’ debut in Sepang was held alongside the Malaysian Super Series. Other major race events will partner the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo in subsequent race meetings such as Formula Nippon in Japan, the Audi Pandelta Race in Zhuhai, and culminating in a big season finale in Shanghai in November with a Group final: Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo, Audi R8 LMS Cup, VW Scirocco Cup Asia and Porsche Cup Asia.

Lamborghini Super Trofeo Race Car

A lightweight version of the road-going Gallardo LP 560-4, the Super Trofeo race car comes complete with a reworked chassis and a power output of 419 kW from its V10 engine. The race car features Lamborghini’s permanent four-wheel drive and comes equipped with leading safety features, including an FIA FT-3 fuel cell, a full roll cage, a new Brembo Racing brake system and compatibility with HANS safety devices.

Typical of Lamborghini, the Super Trofeo’s bodyshell is not only extremely light but also exceptionally safe. Boasting tremendous torsional stiffness, the Super Trofeo maintains outstanding handling. Carbon-fibre composite features heavily in the bodyshell’s construction, forming the front skirt, splitter, rear bonnet, front compartment cover, side skirts, diffuser, rear skirt and large rear wing. The rear wing can also be repositioned to suit the requirements of different race tracks and environments, while all the race car’s windscreens and windows are made from Makrolon lightweight hi-tech polycarbonate.

Complementing its carbon-fibre black Alcantara panels, the Super Trofeo comes equipped with one low-mounted racing bucket seat, produced in light and stiff Kevlar carbon-fibre composite, providing perfect ergonomic support to the driver, who is then secured into position by a six-point racing harness.

Belgium’s Bernard Delhez and Frenchman Dimitri Enjalbert are third with 17 points.

The teams’ table is led by Bonaldi Motorsport on 30 points with Autocarrozzeria Imperiale SRL, Touring Auto 2000 SRL and Autovitesse Garage R. Affolter locked together in second place on 20 points. Heico Gravity-Charouz (12) and Lamborghini Dehler Team Germany (10) round out the standings.

The number of cars on the grid for Silverstone is likely to be 18 with a UK entry joining the fray. Competition for the title is fierce with new teams entered from Italy, France, Germany, the Czech Republic and 13 new contenders from all over Europe.

The 2012 series will be shown on major broadcaster Eurosport. This agreement allows the series to reach all 59 countries, including Italy, covered by Eurosport, with its reach of 129 million households.

The Eurosport coverage includes a one-minute teaser shown on the Sunday of each race weekend on “Motorsports Weekend” magazine, followed by a 26-minute summary, highlights and interviews aired on the following Tuesday evening.

Additionally, Lamborghini and Blancpain have announced the launch of a new series of competitions in Asia for 2012. The Asian championship LamborghiniBlancpain Super Trofeo will debut in Sepang, Malaysia, on 26-27 May 2012 and will continue with five other weekends of racing in Japan, China and Taiwan.

    The Lamborghini Aventador J revealed

    The Lamborghini Aventador J revealed

At the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, Automobili Lamborghini is presenting the most uncompromising open super sports car of its entire history. The Lamborghini Aventador J is a force of nature on wheels – supremely powerful and supremely open. The Aventador J offers its pilot and co-pilot an utterly indescribable experience of power and dynamics. At the same time, the 515 kW / 700 hp two-seater is a first class technology showcase, combining innovative solutions and brand new materials and demonstrating Automobili Lamborghini’s enormous expertise in carbon fiber technology.

The Lamborghini Aventador J is a radically open automobile – exterior and interior meld into each other. The designers and engineers in Sant’Agata Bolognese have not only dispensed entirely with the roof, but also with the front windshield. This requires that drivers of the Aventador J must have the right equipment for driving at top speeds higher than 300 Km/h.

This kind of driving at the limit is a highly exclusive experience – the Lamborghini Aventador J is fully functional for road use. It is an absolute one-off: a one-of-a-kind piece of art.

“With the Lamborghini Aventador J, we have molded our brand DNA into its most definitive form to date. This automobile is as extreme and as uncompromising as only a Lamborghini can be,” says Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini.

“The new Lamborghini Aventador J is the most radical open supersports car of Lamborghini’s history. Its name comes from our tradition and combines an unconventional design with technology innovation. Nowadays we are confronted with several regulations that we face in the spirit of challenge. The Aventador J is the proof that, despite the rules, Lamborghini will always make people dream, even in the future.”

    Continuation of a glorious tradition

With the Aventador J, technically based on the Aventador, Automobili Lamborghini is carrying on its glorious brand tradition. The 1970 Jota, for instance, was the stuff of legends – a Lamborghini Miura with improved performance and virtually redesigned in every detail. It remained a one-off; although some owners subsequently had their Miuras modified to look like the Jota.

The letter J is derived from the sporting rules of the FIA world motorsport organization. Its “Appendix J” defines the technical specification of race cars in the various classes.

The Aventador: Extremely open, overwhelming power

The Lamborghini Aventador J is a super sports car of positively dramatic single-mindedness and openness. It combines the overwhelming performance of the Lamborghini Aventador with the most intense experience of power and dynamics imaginable in an automobile.

The technical basis for the Aventador J is the Aventador LP 700-4, Lamborghini’s new twelve-cylinder model. Presented in 2011, the Aventador has been acclaimed by customers and journalists alike. The Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4’s technology package is unique – its structure is based on an innovative monocoque made from carbon fiber reinforced polymers that combines systematic lightweight design with optimum stiffness and safety. The new twelve-cylinder with a displacement of 6.5 liters and 515 kW / 700 hp combines the best in high-revving thrills with mighty pulling power. Its super-fast ISR transmission, permanent all-wheel drive and push-rod suspension combine this potent power with the utmost handling precision.

Systematic lightweight design – considerable weight reduction

Naturally, the Aventador J benefits enormously from this unique technology package. Yet the Aventador J has a significantly different interpretation to the Aventador coupé. In this open version, the monocoque has a largely new design, including the two safety bars behind the seats. The absence of a roof, of the large windshield, of the air conditioning system and of the navigation system obviously takes it to an even lower weight. With a dry weight of 1575 kilograms, the series production Aventador LP 700-4 is already extremely light for its performance class thanks to its carbon fiber construction.

Carbonskin, a brand new carbon fiber material

The unique expertise of Automobili Lamborghini in the field of carbon fiber reinforced polymers is evident not only in the hi-tech monocoque, but also in the research into further innovative solutions. Unlike traditional seats, in the Aventador J seats are made of Forged COMPOSITE®, with inserts of flexible carbon fiber fabrics: a result of an innovative Lamborghini patent.

The specialists at Lamborghini have developed an even more amazing version of carbon fiber material for the Aventador J. In its first automotive application, this carbon fiber fabric called “Carbonskin” is made of woven carbon fibers soaked with a very special epoxy resin that stabilizes the fiber structure and keeps the material soft. Like a hi-tech fabric, the carbon fiber mats fit perfectly to every shape. In the Aventador J, the complete cockpit and parts of the seats are clad in this material and shimmer in matt carbon fiber black. It’s conceivable that in future there will be many potential applications for this freshly patented and extremely fine-looking material, even very high-end clothing.

    The Design: uncompromisingly Lamborghini

An extreme Aventador obviously needs an equally single-minded design, which goes without saying at the Centro Stile Lamborghini. Every single model from Sant’Agata Bolognese bears the unique design of the brand. Clear, precise surfaces, as well as sharp, often broken lines are among the unmistakable styling tools. They consistently emphasize the power and enormous presence of these Italian super sports cars. Not one line is ever accidental – the defining principle is always ‘form follows function’.

This function is very clearly defined for the Aventador J – explosive dynamics, extreme driving fun, a unique experience. Every kilometer with the Aventador J is extreme fun: something plainly evident from the very first glance.

Rear view mirror like a periscope

Virtually every part of the outer chassis was redesigned for the Aventador J, yet it shows the spirit of Lamborghini in its most concentrated form. The car’s dimensions are extreme: the overall length is 4890 mm, the overall width (excluding mirrors) is 2030 mm while the height is 1110 mm.

The highest points are marked by the rear view mirror, which is perched on an arm like a periscope, and by the two safety bars behind the seats. In place of the classic front windshield there are two small wind deflectors. The occupants of the Aventador J are confronted by the element of the wind in much the same way as a superbike rider – therefore the right clothing is prerequisite for every trip.

    Front scoop with winglets

The front of the Aventador J is somewhat narrower than that of the Aventador. The front end is dominated by a highly distinctive carbon fiber air scoop, with central fixing braces and upward tilting winglets on the outer edges. Viewed from the side, the front end of the Aventador J looks like a Formula 1 racing car.

Red with chrome effect, wheels with CFRP fan

The black of the carbon fiber parts is visibly evident throughout the car – the significantly wider sill elements and the mighty rear diffuser form a perfect contrast to the rich red body paintwork. The special red color was developed specifically for this Aventador – a highly intensive red with a slight chrome effect.

The wheels, of course, were also developed specifically for this car, with 20-inch rims at the front and 21-inch at the rear. The five-spoke aluminum wheels have a central lock system and an additional carbon fiber insert that functions like a small fan for optimum brake ventilation.

Naturally, the doors on the Aventador J also open upward. They are considerably thinner than on the Aventador and are fitted with a tiny, fixed side window. The muscular flanks around the rear wheels are hallmark Lamborghini and make it immediately apparent where this particular bull keeps his power.

Rear end purely for aerodynamics and ventilation

Because of its ample dimensions, the eye is drawn inexorably to the rear end. It consists in principle of just three elements – the carbon-fiber rear diffuser, the four huge tail pipes and the rear lights with their typical Lamborghini light signature in the form of a Y. The remaining surface area is for heat dissipation and is enclosed only by a black metal mesh. The rear end is crowned by an enormous fixed spoiler mounted on the bodyshell by two arms. ‘Form follows function’ to the nth degree. The spoiler is supported by two pillars connected by the diffuser: clearly inspired by racing.

    Special bumpers

In comparison with the Aventador LP 700-4, the exclusive Aventador J has special front and rear bumpers. Both bumpers have been supplemented with carbon fiber fins that act as flow deviators. Their purpose is to achieve a significant increase in the vehicle’s downforce at both the front and the rear.

    The outside comes inside

The Aventador J’s exterior and interior forms flow seamlessly into each other. This supersports car turns its inside outward and is as open as it can possibly be. Conversely, the exterior ‘flows’ through the interior – a red stripe runs from the front hood, between the two wind deflectors, over the dashboard, down the console to the center tunnel and back up between the seat backs, before leaving the interior and heading for the engine cover panel.

    Interior is minimalist and single-minded

This band of color connects the front and the rear of the car, creates a visual separation between the driver and passenger space and is interrupted only by a small control panel housing the starter button and the switches for lights and transmission. The Aventador J is equipped neither with a navigation nor car audio system, nor does it have the associated screen or air conditioning controls – these would simply detract from its one and only raison d’être as an extreme driving experience. What remains, of course, are two programmable TFT displays behind the steering wheel.

The engine cover also brings the inside to the outside. To be more precise, it is not so much a cover but more a framework.
This part has a new geometry (X shape) and is made of carbon fiber. Two large openings lay bare both cylinder banks of the mighty V12 power unit with its 6.5 liters of displacement – a truly stunning sight for every automobile aficionado.

A unique work of art licensed for the road

However, at the end of the Geneva Motor Show, this sight will be the preserve of just one – the future owner of the Lamborghini Aventador J. There is only one of them, no prototypes and no others for the Lamborghini Museum. The buyer can look forward to a truly unique, street-legal work of art. He will possess the most extreme expression of Lamborghini DNA in existence and a real masterpiece of high technology. But the many other fans of the super sports cars from Sant’ Agata Bolognese can rest assured – the Aventador success story has only just begun!
